January 5th, 2009... “How much are these cookies?” One of the after-school regulars was at the counter inspecting a pac of heart shaped vegan cookies that look like bird suet. “Two-fifty plus some tax,” I answered. Wow. A kid who is thinking healthy. “Are they good?” she asked. Go ahead, Read on! “Very good,” I said and then cautioned, “Now look, they’re healthy for ya. That means not so much sugar, chewy whole grain. You have to have a taste for something like that.” Geez. I don’t want to have to refund a half-eaten cookie to this kid because (inserting a whiny voice here in my imagination) “It doesn’t taste good.” “Do you like them?” she asked. Judas Priest. “I like them a lot and eat them all the time.” She looked at me. “Then I guess my horse should really like them.” “You’re buying them for your horse?” “Yeah.” “Because I like them, you think your horse will (pause, pause, get it right) really like them? She laughs. “Yeah I guess so.” I love it. This kid’s a stitch. |
